We all want to be aspiring travel photographer and I’m no different. This was a family holiday in essence. But I wanted to come back with a meaningful portfolio of shots rather then the normal snap shots.
Having been to Australia twice before this was my real chance to shine and work from a lightweight kit bag. The stuff I was going to leave behind was the hardest decision to make. I have a Canon EOS 20D, so out went the grip, the 420 flash unit and my big zoom. Even my macro lens got left behind, which was a tough one as I new there would be some creepy crawlies around.
The other decision was storage, called in some favours and borrowed a couple of cards. But even then 5gig I was taking might not be enough? So I decided on a 30GB iPod video as a back up for the trip and companion for those long trips in the bus. This was by no means the best solution but the compromise was the music and video. As it turned out there are loads of internet cafes even in remote locations. Which gives you access to all your back-up needs. Friendly people are always happy to help you get those important images of to disk.
The planned route was 4 days in Brisbane, 7 days in Cairns and 10 days to finish in Perth. A lot had to be crammed into just three weeks but the hardest bit is getting there. The travelling around is very organised and easy to do.
Images that will be post will showcase each stop off point along the journey and what I wanted to record.
